As a newly graduated student, the emphasis on confusion in terms of what to do next is probably something many can relate to despite choosing our career path. It’s the process of job seeking itself that can be intimidating. As an aspiring psychologist and social worker, my goals in the near future is to find an organization that stands for the advocation of mental health and the nurturance of positive thinking patterns in areas such as higher education, literature, philosophy and cultural competence. Soon enough, I hope to start an organization myself.

Careers & Goals

With an Associates degree in Social and Behavioral Science, I’ve been trying to explore the possibilities of careers I could pursue through higher education. Currently, I’m on track to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with the intention to go to Grad School. Hopefully, later this year I can come back and change this to ‘admitted’ Grad student.

As a new graduate, I thought long and hard about my decision on continuing onto grad school even though it was always my long-term goal. The overstimulation came more from deciding what to study and how it would correlate with my undergrad degree.  But by combining my knowledge for psychology and thinking patterns in partnership with my need for self-fulfillment, the feeling of making a difference in a positive way using my passion and skillset, I chose a Masters in Social Work. Blessed to say that I start my third higher education program soon, nervous but willing.

Career goals can be intimidating but loving what I learn about is the cheat to staying driven. Teaching psychology or philosophy would be powerful as well as traveling for consulting and counselor obligations has also been in huge interest. Along with these, I’ve found a love for social work and the empathetic aspect. Tying all of my interests whether it be editing/writing, teaching, psychotherapy or philosophical work to make the world better around me for myself as well as others. Having many interests can be tough when choosing one to pursue.

As an aspiring psychologist, it’s important to me that I pay attention to the way the mind shapes our everyday decisions. Along with learning about it through numerous courses including but not limited to Cognitive, Social and Language psychology. In addition to these, I’ve found enlightenment in courses like Ethics, Logic and Research Methods. The labs in developmental and social psychology are the most impactful, as the give you true insight of the capability of the brain and how nurturance can play a big role.
